Here at Reel Lyfe we have been fishing for over 40 years, and while we have had awesome results. Unfortunately we did not always have the best bait choices. So we decided to do something about it. We began harvesting and wholesale purchasing our own bait. The word got out and then others began asking if we had enough to share or sell to them and thus, that is how Reel Lyfe Bait & Tackle began.
Live bait is one of the most effective ways to attract fish because of its natural movement, scent, and appearance in the water. Species like shrimp, mullet, and croaker create realistic action that triggers aggressive strikes from redfish, trout, flounder, and many other game fish. Whether fishing from the shore, pier, jetty, or boat, live bait helps anglers increase hookups and improve their chances of landing quality catches.
While fresh dead bait is equally valuable and often preferred for targeting larger bottom-feeding fish and strong predators along the Gulf Coast. Fresh-cut mullet, squid, and other natural baits release strong scent trails that travel through the water and draw fish from a distance. When properly prepared and kept fresh, dead bait stays durable on the hook and performs exceptionally well for black drum, catfish, sharks, and other hard-fighting species.
Respooling - Respooling your fishing line on a regular basis helps maintain its strength, smoothness, and overall performance. Old lines can become brittle, twisted, or weakened from sun exposure, saltwater and repeated usage, thus increasing the chances of line breaks at the worst possible moment.
Fish Cleaning - Removing the entrails and bloodline is essential for preserving flavor, freshness, and food safety. Taking the time to clean your catch the right way also shows respect for the fish and the effort it took to land it.
Filleting - Proper filleting ensures you get the most meat. We take our time to remove rib bones and trim away any remaining skin or bloodline to improve both flavor and presentation.
Vacuum Packing - The key to preserving freshness and extending its shelf life to eat in the future. Taking this extra step, ensures it tastes just as fresh months later as the day it was caught.
